When you visit Antigua you won’t want to miss the white sandy beaches and clear waters of the Caribbean Sea. Because we are beach lovers we’ve recommended our top beautiful beaches that are easy to reach from the Antigua cruise port. They are all easy to reach and less than a 25-minute drive from St John’s.

Step Back in Time at Betty’s Hope

St John’s is no exception to this and has the wonderful Public Market Complex. If you’re a nature lover and want to get your outdoor fix, then a great to do just that is by hiring a kayak for a few hours and exploring the island’s mangroves. During a mangrove kayak tour, you may even get a chance to spot a jellyfish species unique to Antigua — the upside-down jellyfish (Cassiopea).

How To Get Around Antigua From The Cruise Port?

Bask in the grand sight of the city's skyline, dominated by the white baroque towers of St. John's Cathedral. Sample local cuisines, visit the Botanical Garden, witness the magnificent Antigua Lighthouse, the historical Fort James and much more as you discover this grand city. Heritage and Redcliffe Quays are in the heart of St. John's, the capital city. You'll find shopping, restaurants, bank machines and transportation when you step off the pier. They have various packages on offer depending on the number of zip lines you want to try.

Indulge in the mouth watering flavors of Caribbean cuisine, immerse yourself in local traditions, and let St. John's captivate your heart. Feed Giant Tortoises At Lavinscourt Island

This is a hike that we love to do as a family because the views are incredible. Plus there are so many things to see such as butterflies, hermit crabs, hummingbirds, cacti and much more. This centuries-old quay has been beautifully restored to all its Georgian glory with its stunning historical area with turquoise, red and yellow waterfront buildings. There are lots of stunning boutique shops offering locally sourced products from artworks to clothing. Located in a national park, this swath of beach is untouched and protected and sits perfectly off-the-beaten-track. Snorkelers can also enjoy their time here with calm waters to explore near the edge of the bay.

The Pillars of Hercules are geological formations rising out of the sea at the end of Galleon Beach. The relentless rain, wind and crashing waves have over time carved them out. They’re impressive to see and one of our top locations for some great snorkelling. At the remote (and beautiful) Seaforth Beach, the Pig’s Paradise team bring their little piglets to visit you. You’ll have a chance to swim with the pigs and bottle-feed them their milk. The main experience at Lavinscourt Island is feeding and petting the giant tortoises that live there as part of a breeding programme.

You can sit, relax and watch the Atlantic Ocean crashing in its natural limestone Arch. We love going on Easter Monday when it’s host of the Annual Kite Festival. We think that the best view in Antigua is from Shirley Heights lookout point overlooking English Harbour. If you’re feeling adventurous then you can hike up from Galleon Beach via the Mermaid Pools.

Antigua is one of the only places in the world where you can take a tour out to a sandbar in the sea to swim and interact with stingrays. You don’t need to be able to swim and kids of all ages are welcome (under 5’s are free). The Rec, as it is affectionately known, is now run-down and more of a relic than a sports field.

However, it will not include a special discount that can be applied if you book the package with us over the phone. Experience the ecology and history of Antigua through entertaining guides as you sail, hike, swim and snorkel. You’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and beverages while on the boat. If your ship is at Deep Water Harbour, count on the fare into town running around $10 to $12. That can average as little as a dollar or two per person if a driver is trying to fill up a van.

Despite damage by Hurricane Irma, this island is still worth a day-trip. Simply hop on the Barbuda Express which is a high-speed catamaran that will carry you over for a day of exploration of this very untouched Caribbean habitat. Antigua should definitely be on your travel bucket list, but what is there to do? When the finest cruise vacation is your top priority, this is the place to start. Since living in Antigua for the last 3 winters we have never experienced or heard of anything that makes us think that it’s unsafe.

If you are taking a cruise from Antigua, chances are that you will want to stop by one of its many beautiful beaches. Whether you’re looking to try out an outdoor activity or simply spend the day lounging, there is going to be a beach you can enjoy. If you’re looking to simply beach bum, you might consider visiting Valley Church Beach (famous for its white sand and clear water).

From finding the right destination to choosing the best departure date, we're here to help. Plus, our experienced travel consultants have access to exclusive vacation deals to make sure you get the best value for your time and money. Lowest pricing is based on our 3rd party pricing supplier and valid as of April 21st, 2024. As a former British colony, Antigua maintains the practice of driving on the left.

The island can hold its own in the duty-free shopping category, but the real highlights lie well beyond the capital and port town of St. John's. Antigua’s national sport is cricket, if you love it as much as the locals do then you should head to the stadium to watch a match. We’ve been a few times and even though we aren’t all huge cricket fans, we’ve still really enjoyed it. However, if you’re feeling adventurous then it is possible to walk to them from Galleon Beach. If you’re looking for a break from the beaches and love being at one with nature then Devil’s Bridge is great.
